The Blogging Challenge is here. Most of the student blogs are registered if you haven’t there’s still time. I think it will be interesting because I have never done it before. To connect with different people around the world should be pretty cool. When you blog it helps you improve your writing, spelling and punctuation. The Student Blogging Challenge is a series of different challenges that you have to complete before you do the next challenge. It lasts for 10 weeks and I  hope to complete all the challenges.

Pink Shirt Day started because a boy in Nova Scotia went to school wearing a pink shirt. People in  his school  picked on him because of the pink shirt . The next day two  boys from his school went to the local thirft store and bought pink shirts. Almost everyone at the school wore a pink shirt that day to show him that it is not ok to be bullied. The boy must of felt  supported by everyone in his school.

Pink shirt day was February 23 this year. Most people wore a pink shirt to support people that got bullied through out the year. There are 4 types of bullying. Cyber,physical,verbal and social. All of these have devestating effects emotionally and sometimes physically. Emotional  scars can last forever.

If I saw someone being bullied I would tell the teacher or seek help from people around. I would stand up for the person who is getting bullied. Bullying is not cool. What would you do if you saw someone being bullied???

In class we learned a little about a famous artist name Jackson Pollock. He also goes by Jack the Dripper because he likes to spatter  paint. The canvases he paints are on the ground and not on walls like most artists. There are seven elements of art. Lines,  they can be curved or straight, repeated, combined, different lengths and widths. Another one is colour.  Warm colours are orange, yellow and red. Cool colours are blue, green and violet.  A different element is form.  Form is when shapes are bent to create width, length and height.  Space is a flat image to create a illusion of form. Shape is space created by line. Value  is a scale of  lightness of a single colour.  The last one is texture, it is all around us and can be explored by touching and looking at the objects in the environment.

Three elements that  Jackson Pollocks uses:

1. We both have line
2. We both have shape
3. We both have colour

Three differences between my online painting and Pollock’s are:

1. I used a computer to paint and he paints on a canvas.
2. I used a mouse to paint and he uses sticks spray bottles, paintbrushes etc.
3. In his paintings he has texture and I don’t.

Do you prefer Xbox 360 or Ps3? I have an Xbox 360 and I’m thinking about selling it and getting a Ps3 because Microsoft makes you pay for online play and Sony doesn’t. After about a year and a half you’re almost doubling what you paid for the Xbox360 in the first place. That’s why I want a Ps3. If you have a Ps3 can you please give me advice on whether I should  keep my Xbox or get a Ps3? Ps3 has a built in blu-ray player and what does Xbox have? Maybe the Xbox has a little bit better games but is it worth switching systems?

 Mt.Washington is located in the  Comox Valley where I live. It takes about 20-30 minutes to drive  there. There are many things you can do at Mt.Washington like tubing, snowboarding,  down hill skiing, cross country skiing and snowshoeing. In the summer a lot of people go  there and go hiking or mountain biking on the alpine trails too.

When I’m at Mt.Washington I snowboard. There are a lot of different runs. There are different levels too. The bunny hill  is for beginners, the green runs are the next level for beginners then there are the  blue runs for intermediate . The  Black Diamond runs are for people that have a lot of experience. There is  a run named the Hawk and that is my favourite. It’s a mix of blue,  green and black diamond. I go up about once a week  mostly with friends. We go to a terrain park and there are a couple of  jumps I really like called The Marge and The Shocker.  I have never actually hit The Shocker only The Marge, but I really want to try It’s the biggest jump in the park.

Do you have a mountian near you if so do you snowboard or ski?

A couple of  days ago we started a section in math about angles. In schools and other places like houses, building, and cars you will find angles. In sports and in your life like hockey, snowboarding and gymnastics you can find different angles.

The names of the  angles  that we learned are:

• an acute angle which is less then 90°
• an obtuse angle is more then 90° and less then 180°
• a right angle which is 90°
• a straight angle which  is 180°
• a reflex angle is more then 180° and less then 360°

In a class project we had to bring a camera and take pictures of angles around the school and out on our playground. I was suprised that there are so many angles around the world and I didn’t stop and look at them before. I’m glad I learned all about different angles.

Our class is blogging because it helps improve our writing. Spelling, puncuation and grammer will improve and it will help us get better in our blogging and writing  future. We will also do more writing in this class then just the average class. It lets us interact with other people around the world and locally or even our own classmates.

I’m looking forward to getting better at my typing and writing. Also it’s fun to make friends over the internet. Some of our posts we get to make them up and some we have to follow directions on  what to post.
